The beluga whale
The beluga is one of the smallest species of whale. They can grow up to 20 feet long, 15 feet being average. 13 feet is the smallest they will get . They weigh 2000-3300 pounds, and they live 25-50 years.They are very beautiful animals with rounded foreheads and no dorsal fins. They travel in groups called pods, and they are very social animals. It is a very sad fact that they are a threatened animal. This is mostly from people, but other predators are the polar bear and the Orca whale. The females are pregnant for 14-15 months. When the baby is born, it is actually not white like the adults. It is born grey or sometimes brown, and as they reach maturity they turn the perfect white like the adults. They have been callled the white whale, white porpoise, and sea canary. They can dive up to 2,100 feet and can hold their breath from anywhere from 3 minutes up to 15 minutes. Its prey includes, fish, worms, and squid. It has 34 teeth, not meant for chewing. That's because it swallows it prey whole!
